24h Mobile Hackathon: Re-Type Europe´s Source Code

Mobile Hackathon

The Campus Party Europe' Mobile Hackathon is a 24 h event where developers can create a fresh mobile application. You will have a great opportunity to show the biggest tech companies and the European scene what you can create on your own or with your team within a short period of time. There is no specific API, programming language or framework we focus on, everything's accepted as long as it's mobile. And if you need help there will be an entourage of well-known speakers and cutting-edge developers around to help you out!

Curious? More details about about the rules, the jury and prizes here.

Hackathon
Google Chrome Extensions for (Data) Transparency & Control

GoogleChrome

You are invited! Campus Party, a week-long technology festival taking place in Berlin and thousands of hackers, gamers and geeks will follow the call to the former Tempelhof Airport - and you could be one of them! Google is a proud sponsor of Campus Party and we invite you to be part of it by participating in our Chrome Extension Hackathon.

Don’t just talk - Take action! Everyone is talking about privacy, data security and transparency but you, as a developer, can go one step further: In conjunction with Campus Party’s headline to “Rewrite the source code of Europe” we will host a 24 hours Hackathon to develop Chrome Extensions that enable users to better understand and control what is happening within their browser, what data is being transferred to where and how to prevent unwanted transmissions.

Chrome’s own developers will be on site, helping you start off and through the rough patches, if necessary. They also provide feedback and suggest improvements for your extension so you’ll get the best possible result in the 24 hours.

For the win! Everyone who participates in our Hackathon is a winner already because making the web faster, easier to understand or more transparent is a win for everyone!

But we know that can’t be all so we have a very special price for the winning teams: You’ll get an invitation to Google’s German engineering office in Munich with all expenses paid. After an office tour you’ll get to meet the Chrome team. But that’s not all. The very developers who created the APIs your extension uses will help you to improve and polish it in a one-day-workshop. Optimize your extension to the max and get ready because there’s even more:

Your team will be invited to come to Berlin in October and present your extension at the “DatenDialog”, Google’s biggest conference in Germany on privacy and personal data management with high level guests from politics, non-profit organisations and education. Get on stage and present your way to take control when surfing the web. You’ll be invited to stay and contribute to the whole event, discuss with experts, share your experiences and learn something new.

Special treat for early birds! So you want to be part of the event? Great! To invite you, keep you updated and for better planning we’d like you to pre-register via this form. Early birds catch the worm but early pre-registrations get special Chrome swag. Be one of the first 100 to score it!

Challenge
Firefox OS Challenge

The challenge consists in the development of apps for Firefox OS. This is a new web mobile platform based on HTML5, where the developers have the best from the web, with the power of the native applications. The challenge aims to gather the best applications from web and mobile developers attending Campus Party Europe.

The challenge aims to foster the development of apps for the new HTML5 mobile plaform, Firefox OS. The developers, grouped by teams, have to program an operative (runnable) application using HTML5 Apis to access to the browser capabilities but also, accessing to the device capabilities. In addition, apps can integrate internet webservices to extended features. Every will have access to a Firefox OS device to deploy and test their apps. In addition, last version of the emulated Firefox OS is also available to speed up the development.

EyeEm Photo Hack Day

Living in the age of the connected camera, a photo hack can change the lives of a million people with the mere click on "Download this App". But how do you create a photo app? How do you hack APIs for the good of mankind? And how is this all being done in merely 8 hours? In this 8 hour hackathon, Ramzi Rizk, co-founder and CTO of EyeEm, will give you an introduction to some of his favorite apps and APIs, providing inspiration for your own hacks. At the end of the day your hacks are going to be presented on stage. Participants should have some experience in coding or design. However, if you don't know how to code but got a smashing idea for a photo app, this is the place to meet a dev who can make it become reality.

The prize: an invitation to our grand Photo Hack Day (22/23 September, Berlin), giving you the chance to present your hack to some of the world's leading expert's in the photo and tech industry.
